SILENT MUSIC

BY

Laura Lee Christian

Dainty little flowrs
with purple pearls for petals,
and fiery yellow centers.
Cool dew drops atop them
replenishing their life source,
a new refreshing
before a hot day.
What beautiful clothing you are
for a simple green plant to wear.
You share the colors of Easter
in your bright splendor,
five soft velvet fingers
shaped like kernels of corn
in colors fit for a king.
The yellow flames
in their purple fireplaces
reach outward and upward
to catch the attention
of a passing honey bee.
Your sweet fragrance
is a harmonious beginning
to the honey that shall be made of you.
Will we then be able to
taste your pleasant beauties?
or the goodnesses of the
everlasting God?
How long will you be with us?
How long will you lighten our load
with your effervescent joy
and your silent music?
